The Sal River Paddle - November 2010

Kayaking on a small tributary of the Sal river - this was a trip put together at short notice.

It was nice to see Mike and Sam again with Lauren in tow.

Vivek, Gayatri and son, Omkar were our guides who took us thro' this wetlands' paradise to experience a part of Goa we had never seen!

Rohan, back on land after months at sea, got his feet wet again.

Warren joined us after a long gap and we hope to see him on the waters more often. Mitaxi and Megh(our youngest kayaker) did a double in a single!

 

A lazy, up and down 2 hour paddle on flat waters, is something you must see and experience in Goa.

October 24, 2010 – The Nerul River Paddle

The small and fast flowing Nerul river is one of the most scenic in Goa.

Emptying into the Arabian Sea at the famous Coco beach, the thick green mangroves, birdlife and unique river bed fishing nets make it a must see trip for all ages.

As we paddle up river on a incoming tide, watch the early morning sunrise make an orange glow on the waters!

Hear temple bells as early morning prayers rise upwards with the rising sun – a new day!

Silently glide into the mangroves with your experienced trip leader and guide as you take in the breathing views and vistas that continually open in front of you.

Bird calls and the chirping of the young wet ones signals wake up as the mangroves come alive with bird and marine life at handshaking distance.

In total silence, glide along marveling at the different birds, small river bank dwellers and the early morning fishermen, laying their crab nets.

The river winds its way past paddy fields, ripening with yellow grain, fishing villages and moorings, quaint riverbank dwellings, some monstrous but unbelievable sights.

Oohs and Aahs! - a photographers’ paradise, we almost always finish late waiting for that one last picture, the right angle, a bungled pic’ or just plain soaking in the sun!

Monsoons don't seem to be easing off!

Its been a wet, wet, September till now. The rains don't seem to be stopping anytime soon.

As I write, its pouring outside.

The only thing interesting is this bulbul, (picture below) which has made a its nest on my clothes drying lines, on my back balcony.

Both mother and father bulbuls' take turns sitting in the nest.

Expect the chicks - baby bulbuls soon! maybe just in time for the kayaking season?

Hi everyone!

Its been a long time - 3 months since I last posted here.

We, at Goa Kayaking, are just itiching to get our feet wet and start kayaking in the glorious sunshine expected from next month.

Its been a wet season now for sometime - though Goa Kayaking members did venture out in the Zuari river - twice last month.

Had to turn back once due to high wind speed and heavy rain.

So do check the blog and keep in touch - we intend to start at the earliest.

Goa Kayaking has lots of surprises in store - 14 new routes in the Mandovi, 3 in the Zuari, 2 new passages thro' the mangroves in the Nerul river.

All this in addition to our regular 16 trips in the rivers and back waters of the state is what makes Goa Kayaking the best way to see and experience Goa!

This the last opportunity for those who missed out earlier before the monsoons set in.
Trained members enjoy river and coast kayaking expeditions, on every weekend and public holiday throughout the fair season(October to May).
Training is imparted in the different strokes, safety aspects, basic sea faring skills, identifying the tides, assisting others and leadership and participation in expedition skills.
Trained and certified international water sports instructors (the best in the country) along with our own Goa Kayaking trained members and instructors build confidence and kayaking skills in every trainee.
Two trained lifeguards on a jet ski along with our instructors will always be accompanying the kayakers at all times. (though they really don't need all that!)
just a lot of reassurance that all aspects are taken care of and oh! to satisfy the hordes of anxious and proud Dads' and Mums'!

Thursday April 06, 2010 will be the last date for registration for our last training camp of the season - The 8th Introduction to Kayaking and Training Program 2010.
The camp is due to start April 07-10 & 14-17, 2010.

Our Palolem program cancelled

Bad weather - high winds and rain forced us to cancel our training program at Palolem for Kayak Operators/Hirers.
The program will now be conducted in Palolem, in the first week of October, with the validation to follow at Hollant, Vasco da Gama.

Goa Kayaking's 8th Introduction to Kayaking and Training Program will be conducted at Vainguinim Beach, Dona Paula, Panaji from May 7-10 & 14-17, 2010 respectively.

These will be the last programs before the onset of the monsoons.

Both programs will start on the first day at 7.0 am and will finish at 10 am. Thereafter all participants will be divided into convenient batches based on age, etc. and will be allotted convenient time slots to continue with their practice asnd training.

From this month onwards, till the end of May, Goa Kayaking will conduct Mini Children's Kayaking specials of 45 mts.-90 mts. duration on every Saturday and Sunday afternoons between 3 and 6 pm.

The best way to introduce children to water and appreciate the environment in an eco friendly way!

These are in addition to our popular daily and weekend specials' in the different rivers and along the coast of Goa.
