Daily Kayaking Expeditions

Goa Kayaking offers daily kayaking expeditions in all rivers, tributaries and backwaters, at different places all over Goa.

Typical expedition

The expeditions usually take off in the mornings between 8.0-9.0 am.

Guests/members paddle their own kayaks at a relaxed pace, enjoying a different perspective from the water, thro’ the mangroves, stopping at the numerous fishing

villages(above),beaches, inlets, coves, etc. for freshening up, exploring, and swimming. Expedition ends at about 12.30-1.0 pm. when we bid goodbye. We normally cover about 5-6 km. on an upriver paddle, with the tide. The down river float, on a receding tide, is usually faster and longer, 7-8 km. - but not very conducive to visiting the mangroves, as water would have receded from the mudbanks/flats.

Where we start/end
All guests find their own way to an announced starting point (putin) and our friendly personnel, will guide their cab/ pickup coach to the end (pull out) point.

What you will get
Every guest in an expedition will receive
Zip foil pack containing 4 different and filling snacks
Bag containing at least 5 pieces of fresh fruit
Bottle/tetrapack of soft drink/fruit juice
Bottle of mineral water
It is the opinion of numerous guests who have enjoyed our daily paddles, that the snacks, fruit and coolers on the trip is more than a lunch offered by others!

Daily expeditions, at different times, are offered, at different beaches and rivers, all over Goa, depending on the tide.

Coastal Kayak Beach Safari

The Coastal kayak beach safari starts from Bogmalo/Velsao beach(above), with a relaxed paddle along the coast, visiting and stopping at isolated beaches and fishing hamlets in little coves along the way, with the expedition ending either at Hollant bay or Velsao/Bogmalo beach, depending on the tide. See flying rainbow fish, parrot fish, sardines, wonder at the quaint but effective way, our local fishermen catch fish, handed down from generation to generation, by their ancestors!

These expeditions, usually start at 9.30 am. in the morning and finish by 12.30 – 1.0 pm. Optional seafood lunch n chilled beer/soft drinks! a good combination, don't you think! after the morning's exertion, generally preferred and welcomed by all!

For experienced kayakers, a bit more challenging and longer paddle from Candolim to Nerul is offered with varied sights and sightings, different waters, enough to satisfy the most avid kayaker.

A expedition in the calm Arabian sea, out to the island off Baina beach(Vasco da Gama), a bit of exploration and a leisurely kayak to landfall at Bogmalo beach, with an (optional)a la carte lunch of seafood and chilled beer! - like that? - just call us!

Coastal kayak safaris' can be arranged anywhere in Goa, for the convenience of our members/guests. However these are subject to weather conditions, suitable and safe kayaking conditions( no motorized water sports/speed boats/jetskis in the vicinity!) and availability of basic minimum infrastructure.

Optional, combination full day expeditions to visit and spend time on some of Goa’s most secluded beaches, do some wonderful sight seeing, see actual village life and marvel at the way our ancestors went thro their daily chores centuries ago, see Old Goa, are also offered.

GK also offers special and impromptu beach and riverbank bbqs’ under the swaying palms!

River Expeditions
Our experienced trip leader will guide the kayakers on the water, help them discover many hidden coves and fishing hamlets which are normally not accessible by road, lead them silently thro’ bird habitats(below)
where they literally stare eyeball to eyeball at exotic local and migratory birds in their winter nesting sites and playground on the mudflats.

Guests will also be led to discover some very special sights like the one below, which can be seen only from the waterline.

Equipment
Goa Kayaking provides all the equipment needed like top of the line single and tandem kayaks, paddles and life jackets. These modern kayaks are extremely stable and have a very high buoyancy of 150 kg. (solo) and 200 kg. for the tandems. It is our experience that it is next to impossible for any one to topple and fall out from our kayaks. We also make it a point before embarking and insist that every guest wears a life jacket(PFD) to make our expedition a safe and enjoyable outing.
What to wear/bring along
All guests/members are requested to wear board shorts/rash vests or alternatively any pair of shorts and light shirt /tshirt preferably long sleeves will do. Expect to get wet as the put in/pull out, is generally in knee deep water. Wear any footwear which you do not mind getting wet and are generally advised to carry a change of clothing, towels and a bottle of mineral water. A cap/floppy cap covering the neck, sunglasses and sunblock cream (SPF 35 and above) will help keep you cool and make the time spent on the water, a memorable one! A camera is a must to capture those magical moments on the water but please use carefully and safely and be responsible for the same.

Nerul River Expedition No.4

Goa Kayaking's Nerul River Expedition No.4 took off from near the Sinquerim jetty next to the famous Coco Beach on Sunday november 08, 2009. Excellent weather wonderful flat waters and the serene surroundings made for an unforgettable paddle up river on an incoming tide. We visited places in the mangroves along the left bank which had huge colonies of nesting birds, literally stared at birds on the low lying mudbanks who probably saw a boat for the first time in and about their habitat! Saw some wonderful sights from the water and most of all enjoyed the serenity and tranquil nature of the trip with only the swish swish of the paddle as we gently floated along. Mitaxi Mehta with her 7 year old in a kayak was the sole woman on this trip. The 5 km. float drew an enthusiastic response and ended for lunch at the riverside Restaurant Aah Goa for a sumptous bbq buffet lunch.

Jus' like the previous days still glassy waters minus the meavy mist and dew.
Huge shoals of fish in the waters(me guess is they're sardines) 600 meters out shimmering in the water.
Our trainees went tracking thro the rocks today. Did they enjoy that! Should have seen the smile on doctor's (Manju)face! She sure takes to the water.
Sadly missed out watching the tv coverage on GOA 365 yesterday? Did any of you watch it?
Had a wonderful time on shore with Raghu's pet lab, MANU. Boy! ain't he cute!
(the sun was sure up as can u see reflected off my fast balding head!)

Any and all of your suggestions will help make things better! A different point of view is always welcome and maybe we could improve on our offerings.
Each one please carry some snacks/fruits to share with d others.

Anyone interested in buying kayaks? Maybe we could all place an order together n work things out. Kayaks r d need of the hour!

Day 1 - Hollant bay

Our 3rd introduction to kayaking and practice program was off to a rousing start yesterday morning at 7 am. atHollant bay.

A heavy mist hanging over the still waters and a slight chill in the air only spurred the enthusiastic kayakers, both young and old, who are taking part in the program.

Our trainer philippe, first explained and demonstrated the basics of kayaking and the different strokes on the beach and later each participant was given several opportunities to try their hand at the sport.
Six basic kayaking paddling strokes were demonstrated and explained. Trainees were all made to topple the kayak in shallow water and then taught to right an upturned kayak and board the same. So confident were they, that within an hours, every one had mastered the art of dunking, righting and reboarding the kayak in deep water 100 metres out on the sea!

As a finale to the first day, all participants were taken 400/600 meters out on the sea to give them their first feel of freedom on the water.
Me thinks that they're enjoying it already!
Let's hope our GK rockstar Raghu brings his lab tomorrow. The BITS guys+Ms. seem to be enjoying themselves evey bit!
